The story

What you’ll hear on this walk.

Nora Ephron’s New York was rarely about landmarks. This walk begins at the storefront transformed into the Shop Around the Corner, then follows Broadway past Café Luxembourg and the Apthorp, where Ephron built a life around an increasingly familiar radius of restaurants, grocery stores, sidewalks, and neighbors.

From Zabar’s and the former Café Lalo, the route follows what happens when those familiar places begin to change or disappear. It ends in Riverside Park at the 91st Street Garden, where You’ve Got Mail reaches its final scene and the walk asks whether Nora Ephron’s New York can still be found at all.

If you have time, step inside Zabar’s instead of just passing it. You don’t need to buy anything; a few minutes navigating the chaos and crowd is part of the experience.
